Cleaning validation swabs

Cleaning validation swabs are specialized tools used in pharmaceutical, food, and medical device manufacturing to sample equipment surfaces, ensuring the removal of API residues, cleaning agents, and contaminants. Designed for high recovery rates, these low-TOC, non-abrasive polyester or foam swabs (e.g., Texwipe TX714K, Foamtec SurfCHECK) allow for accurate, traceable testing via TOC, HPLC, or UV-Vis methods.

Key Features and Types

  • Material: Primarily double-knit polyester or polyurethane foam for high solvent compatibility (e.g., IPA) without shedding particles or fibers.
  • Structure: Adhesive-free, thermally bonded heads with rigid polypropylene handles for, which can be broken off into sample vials.
  • Low Background: Specifically cleaned to minimize background interference for Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analysis (e.g., <50 ppb).
  • Specialized Types: Including long-handle, pointed, or large-head swabs for hard-to-reach, complex, or large-surface areas.

Commonly Used Swabs

Foamtec PolyCHECK: Designed for particle contamination analysis using SEM/EDX/FTIR.

Texwipe Alpha Series (TX714K, TX761K): Often used for TOC analysis due to low background.

Texwipe TX715: Specifically processed for UV-Vis/HPLC analysis.

Contec CONSTIX SV-2: A sealed polyester swab for precise, small-surface sampling.
